I don’t know when this recipe was first published but I first became aware of it in the mid-60s. It was part of an advertisement for Crisco shortening and M&M’s in one of my mother’s magazines. In those days, recipes were often a part of a advertisements for some product or another. My mother cut out the recipe and baked the cookies. Whether or not it was Christmas, New Year, or the middle of July I have no idea. I do remember being very excited every time she made a batch. All of those colorful candies made it my favorite cookie for years to come.
